Opinion - Letters
Duty for the bureaucracy

This is with reference to "Farmers need real help" (Business Line, July 12): Year after year the farmer suicides continue to rise. While there is no denying that relief has been announced for farmers, is there any guarantee that the relief will reach the beneficiaries in full? The bureaucracy must become sensitive to life in the villages and realise that the farmers are the backbone of the nation.

P. K. V. Menon

The thoughts expressed in the article are timely. The author's attempt to bring in a philosophical perspective to the farmers' troubles is noteworthy.
