Airlines Corporate - Performance HAL ranked 45th in aerospace world Our Bureau
Bangalore , July 17 Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, ranked 45, figures among the global league of top 50 aerospace companies. It has moved up six slots up since last year's rank of 51, a company release said. The US-based Defense News released the list of top 100 aerospace companies at the Farnborough International air show, which opened on Monday. The US aircraft major Lockheed Martin heads the list, followed by Boeing (the US), Northrop Grumman (the US), BAe Systems (the UK) and Raytheon (the US) in the top five dominated by US aerospace and defence majors.
Rating criteria
The rating was based on the company's sales and turnover, which, for HAL, was Rs 5,335 crore during the fiscal year ended March 2006. Its net profit grew 32 per cent to Rs 1,250 crore. The HAL Chairman, Mr Ashok Baweja, who is leading a Farnborough mission team of officials, test pilots, designers and engineers, was quoted as saying, "This is really encouraging for us and we are hopeful of breaking into the top 25-35 next year." Mr D. Shivamurti, Director (Finance), added, "We will further our rankings next year and our current order book position is just a pointer to that." At the premier biennial air show, HAL will make daily flying as well as static displays of its star products, the `Dhruv' advanced light helicopter and the IJT (intermediate jet trainer). HAL is also exploring business opportunities in aircraft structures, castings and forgings, engine components and design during the show, the release said.
