Gujarat Heavy Chemicals Ltd (GHCL) on Monday announced the company's results for the first quarter ending June 30, 2006, posting an increase in net sales/income from operations by 19 per cent and operating profit by 46 per cent, while its profit-after-tax (PAT) went up by 45 per cent over the corresponding quarter last year.

The earning per share (EPS) for the quarter is at Rs 3.27.

The Chairman, Mr Sanjay Dalmia, said in a release here that net sales/income from operations increased from Rs 139.10 crore to Rs 165.69 crore. Its PBDIT increased from Rs 44.27 crore to Rs 64.84 crore and PAT from Rs 21.47 crore to Rs 31.04 crore during the period.

GHCL is also working to increase its capacity from six lakh MTPA to 11 lakh MTPA in its Gujarat plant.

Its soda ash profits were due to increased domestic sales and improved realisations by better freight management and lowered discounts. The strong soda ash growth was on the back of the strong economic growth and investment in infrastructure-related sectors.
