Human Resources Corporate India on the hunt for dream teams Anjali Prayag
Bangalore , July 18 Hunt them in herds, is the new hiring mandate. Corporate India, on the threshold of entering a new line of business or crossing the borders to set up new operations, is now demanding not just superstar CEOs but a dream star cast for its new ventures. "With more and more Indian companies entering new lines of businesses or crossing the borders to China or Latin America to set up manufacturing units there, we are now hiring in teams (about 30-40 people) for them," says Mr N. Srinivas, Practice Head, India and Middle East, Maxima Global Executive Search. Traditionally, the IT and ITeS sectors have followed this recruitment practice, but Maxima is now increasingly working on such mandates for manufacturing, pharma, investment banking and even oil companies. Venture capital firms too demand top-level team recruitment to get the right people to run the new businesses, says Mr Srinivas. Mr Sunit Mehra, Country Manager, Hunt Partners India, agrees this is a trend in the industry. This Mumbai-based CEO had placed the entire team for IDBI Bank, the complete team for Accenture's call centre business and is currently working with a European asset management company to place its top team.
Talent chase
Explaining the way dream teams are built, Mr K. Sudarshan, Managing Partner, EMA Partners International, a global executive search firm, says the talent chase starts with netting the CEO first and works downwards. In the case of corporates entering greenfield projects, the CEO who is on board first gets involved with the entire team recruitment. EMA recently set up the entire top team for a bank in Russia. "Russian regulation demands that 75 per cent are locals, but as the company wanted a multicultural workforce, we helped it find the rest from across the globe," says Mr Sudarshan.
