Madurai , July 18

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) - Southern Region launched its third edition of the "iTalent" contest at a roadshow here on Tuesday.

Launched in 2004, in Chennai, with full support from the IT industry, the event aims to identify and showcase the computing talent of students from the regional/sub-urban colleges to the IT industry.

Presenting the initiative, the Vice-President - Global Resource Management Group, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Mr Venkatesan Seshadri, said the event is a project-centric contest designed to test the technical, conceptual, presentation and creative skills of the participants, open to the final-year ECE, EEE, IT and Computer Science students of engineering (UG/PG), M.Sc.- Computer Science, IT and Electronics, and MCA streams with a maximum of four teams from each institution.

The three-stage contest carries cash awards ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 75,000 to five teams with a citation for each team member. Entries with a participation fee of Rs 1,000 per team must reach the CII office by August 20, he said.

He added that there were 424 participants from 65 colleges in the southern region with 151 concepts last year. A large number of participation was from Tamil Nadu, followed by Andhra Pradesh.

Seven top IT companies issued 349 Letters of Intent to contestants with placement opportunities, he said, adding that CII plans to expand the event to the national level by 2008.
