Signs MoU with UPES for education programme

New Delhi , July 18

Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd (MCX) and the University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (UPES) have entered into a mutually co-operative agreement to provide professional training resources in the field of energy trading in commodity markets that would help in creating a talent pool of qualified energy trading professionals.

As per the agreement, MCX will set up web training based simulated trading session to reproduce real trading situations thereby supplementing students' academic knowledge with practical experience. The exchange may also offer employment opportunities to programme participants or recommend successful participants for employment in member organisations . The venture is also likely to explore opportunities to launch similar development programmes abroad.

Focus on energy

Mr Lamon Rutten, Joint Managing Director of MCX and, Dr Parag Diwan, Vice-Chancellor of UPES , signed the agreement on Monday on behalf of their respective organisations. UPES, a UGC recognised university, offers academic programmes in engineering and management dedicated to the energy, transportation and mining sectors.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rutten said, "Lack of energy trading professionals limits the overall potential of the segment in commodity markets. Under the aegis of this alliance, we will introduce educational programmes for MCX members and their representatives, personnel employed in the public and private sector as well as students."

Dr Diwan said, "We expect to successfully address the existing demand-supply gap in the industry through this venture. Further, this partnership will enable us to offer students a deeper understanding of the sector and the change in operating paradigms, besides other benefits such as placement assistance."

The MCX Managing Director and CEO, Mr Jignesh Shah, said, "We are extremely pleased to partner with UPES to further strengthen training initiatives in the area of energy management with special focus on energy trading in commodity markets."
