Gems & Jewellery Minimum standard soon for diamond grading labs Our Bureau
Kolkata , July 19 The members of International Diamond Manufacturers Association (IDMA) and World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB), at a recent 4-day general assembly meeting of the global bodies in Tel Aviv, Israel, have decided to set in motion a process, whereby, a minimum standard would be set for recognised diamond grading laboratories. A Committee has been formed under the auspices of the International Diamond Council (IDC), which would be responsible for initiating discussions with all the grading labs to define and harmonise such standards. The Tel Aviv meeting, according to the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), focused specifically on issues that influenced the position of manufacturers in the diamond business globally, and on measures to enhance consumer confidence. Mr Vasant Mehta, Member, Committee of Administration, GJEPC, representing the Indian diamond industry at the general assembly of the two global bodies, presented the India Diamond Report 2005, the industry trends for early 2006 and the future projections to an international audience.
