Refuted for the record

In contrast, the public sector's response to news reports is more bureaucratic. Reacting to a report that investor interest was waning in one of the major infrastructure initiative of the government and many of the initially interested companies had pulled out, one public sector entity sent in a rejoinder saying the report was factually incorrect and the number of investors who had initially expressed interest was actually lower than what the report had quoted. The rejoinder was followed by a telephone call and when it was pointed out to the report was based on the Department Minister's reply in Parliament, the company went silent. But for the record, it claimed that the report had been refuted.
