Spot rubber prices improve

Spot rubber prices improved on Thursday. Covering groups and purchase agents were buyers at lower levels, as international markets recovered partially though the initial gains were not held in TOCOM. Sheet rubber closed at Rs 95.50 a kg against Rs 94.50 and Rs 95.00 a kg respectively at Kottayam and Kochi.

Futures weak

The rubber futures turned weak shedding Wednesday's gains on NMCE as most of the traders preferred to wait for a clear signal from the trend setting Japanese markets. The August contract was quoted down at Rs 95.80 (Rs 96.32), September at Rs 92.70 (Rs 93.28), October at Rs 89.99 (Rs 91.10) and November contract at Rs 88.00 (Rs 88.90) per kg for RSS 4. The transactions were recorded at 1,514 tonnes till 2 p.m.

RSS 3 improved to 115.62 from Rs 115.23 a kg at Bangkok spot. The August futures for the grade slipped to 280.6 Yen (Rs 112.63) a kg against 281.5 Yen a kg at TOCOM.

Physical prices (Rs a kg) were: RSS-4: Rs 95.50 (Rs 94.50); RSS-5: Rs 93.50 (Rs 93); ungraded: Rs 91.50 (Rs 90); ISNR 20: Rs 94 (Rs 94) and latex 60 per cent: Rs 77.90 (Rs 77.90).
