Tea prices firm at Kochi auctions

Prices of most dust tea varieties remained steady or eased at the Kochi tea auction.

There was 10,03,000 kg of dust tea on offer. While the price of CTC tea eased by Re 1-Rs 2 , bolder varieties eased by Rs 2 to Rs 3.

Some finer CTC varieties were dearer by Re 1-Rs 2. Orthodox high-grown varieties remained dearer, while medium varieties remained barely steady at last week's levels.

Best CTC varieties commanded a price of Rs 55-65 , medium CTC were Rs 49-54, while below medium were quoted at Rs 43-48. High grown BOPD varieties commanded a price of Rs 120, medium BOPD were at Rs 43-44, while secondaries ranged at Rs 39-40.

Leaf tea sale

Good general demand propped up the price of leaf tea and most varieties remained steady to dearer. There was 3,03,000 kg of leaf tea on offer. Medium orthodox brokens remained steady to dearer. Fannings prices moved up by Re 1-Rs 2, while whole leaf grades were barely steady.

High grown orthodox grades were steady to dearer.

The price of CTC bolder brokens eased by Re 1-Rs 2, while fannings were steady to dearer by Re 1-Rs 2. Orthodox leaf grades witnessed good demand from exporters. CTC grades also found some export demand.

Best Nilgiri varieties commanded Rs 65-75, medium orthodox ranged between Rs 47-57 and plain orthodox were at Rs 44-45. Best CTC leaf varieties commanded Rs 50-55, while medium CTC were at Rs 48-52.

Top prices

Kodanad BOPD commanded the top price in the dust category at Rs 120, followed by Pasuparai SFD (Rs 95), Pasuparai FD (Rs 88) and Pasuparai RD (Rs 76). In the leaf category, Chamraj OP commanded the top price at Rs 108, followed by Havukal BOPF ( Rs 97), Kodanad BOPF (Rs 95) and Glendale BOPF (Rs 87).
