ERP, banking top areas for acquisitions in India: Tholons

Our Bureau

Bangalore , July 21

ERP is the biggest area for acquisitions in the Indian IT sector, according to US-based Tholons, a private equity, advisory and investment services firm. Banking solutions firms would also see a lot of interest from firms scouting the nation for acquisitions.

The Indian mergers and acquisitions scene has changed considerably over the past few years and the IT industry can expect a slew of announcements next year.

"Acquisitions are to be expected in BPO, enterprise application, testing, and banking solutions domains," said Mr Avinash Vashistha, Chairman and CEO of Tholons Inc, and founder of neoIT.

Citing Wipro's recent acquisitions, Mr Vashistha said that the trend of Indian IT firms acquiring companies in the US and Europe to enhance their footprint would continue. India is no longer the lone epicentre for acquisitions. Large IT firms will look beyond India to countries and regions such as China, South Korea, and Central Europe.

Tier 2 cities such as Mohali, Mysore and Coimbatore should also be prepared for competition from Tier 2 countries such as China, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Brazil, he said.
