Politics UPA, Left discuss issues for monsoon session Our Bureau
New Delhi , July 22 The Government may initiate discussion on a number of issues including the Indo-US nuclear agreement and the country's internal security situation in the monsoon session of Parliament starting on Monday. Some other legislation such as the Office of Profit Bill and the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority Bill may also figure in Parliament, the Union Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, said after a meeting of the Co-ordination Committee of the UPA, the Government and Left parties. The meeting was held at the Prime Minister's residence.
Other Bills Discussed
The other Bills that were discussed during the two-and-a-half hour long meeting include the Parliament Prevention of Disqualification (Amendment) Bill, the Scheduled Tribes (Recognition of forest rights) Bill, the Banking Regulation (Amendment) Bill and a bill for reservations for OBCs in educational institutions. The meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, was attended by the UPA Chairperson, Ms Sonia Gandhi; the Defence Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee; the Home Minister, Mr Shivraj Patil; the Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, Mr Prithviraj Chavan; the Political Secretary to Congress President, Mr Ahmed Patel; CPI (M) leaders Mr Prakash Karat and Mr Sitaram Yechury; CPI leaders Mr A.B. Bardhan and Mr D. Raja; the Forward Bloc MP, Mr Debabrata Biswas; and the Revolutionist Socialist Party MP, Mr Abani Roy.
