CLUB TALE: The Managing Director of Eurocon Tiles, Mr D.P. Padmanabhan, and the MOP Vaishnav College Principal, Dr K. Nirmala Prasad, at a BL Club meet in Chennai. — Bijoy Ghosh

Chennai , July 23

"One of the shortcomings of present-day students is the lack of industrial exposure. The outside world is harsh and extremely difficult. One needs to know what is happening around oneself. If you are not aware of what is happening, you will be swept aside," said Mr D.P. Padmanabhan, Managing Director, Eurocon Tiles, Chennai after inaugurating the Business Line Club lecture series for the academic year 2006-07 and installing the office-bearers of Business Line Club of MOP Vaishnav College for Women.

"The period for gaining experience has been shortened due to the technological advancements and information technology," he said.

To succeed one needs to combine what he calls the three Es: expertise, enterprise and experience. Expertise includes scholastic or subject knowledge, job knowledge, company knowledge and market or industry knowledge. When these are combined with enterprise, which is innate and cannot be taught, success will come about. But to deliver quality year after year, one needs experience, he said.

In her address, Dr K. Nirmala Prasad, Principal, MOP Vaishnav College, said review of Business Line articles is part of internal evaluation, a strategy which will help the students keep in touch with global developments.

In her acceptance speech, Ms Ranjani Natarajan, President-Elect, MOP Vaishnav College Business Line Club, said, "Reading enforces a certain discipline on our thought process which we cannot gain from any other exercise. Reading the newspaper is a daily task that we must constantly strive to make time for."

The other office-bearers of this club are Ms K.C. Archana, Ms Monica Bhander, Ms R. Vidhya, Ms Divya Nair, MS C. Prarthana, Ms N. Aruna and Ms R. Gayathri.

Mr N. Krishnan, Regional General Manager (Circulation), The Hindu, Chennai, read out the objectives, achievements and the activities of the Business Line club. Mr S. Sridhar, Asst. Regional General Manager (Circulation) and Mr P. Haridas, College Secretary, were also present on the occasion.
