Hyderabad , July 23 The State Government has announced fresh guidelines for effective implementation of Contingency Plan to provide relief to farmers affected due to inadequate rains during the kharif season. After a review of the seasonal conditions, the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, said that funds would not be a constraint for the implementation of the relief measures. The Government machinery has been geared up to provide sufficient quality seeds, fertilisers, water and adequate loans.
Crop loan recoveries
According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office, Dr Reddy simultaneously advised bankers, both institutional and co-operative sector, not to insist on crop loan recoveries in the affected areas. While necessary technical inputs are being provided for crop planning and shifting of crop patterns due to the changed scenario, farm advisories on pest and disease management would be issued periodically. Meanwhile, 43,000 quintals worth Rs 25 crore of pulses, oilseed cop seed, have been despatched to the affected areas. To assess the latest situation, 23 teams of senior agriculture officers and scientists are set to visit the worst affected areas in all the coastal districts, Telangana and Rayalaseema regions later this month.
Widespread rainfall
However, there has been widespread rainfall over the last two days in many districts of the State, triggering sowing operations and transplantation of paddy under wells and borewells had begun. The Mandal agricultural officers, assistant directors of agriculture would extensively tour and provide advice to farmers based on local issues. This will be complemented by District Consultative Committee meeting and a district-level bankers meet that will seek to provide additional crop loans that could help farmers take to sowing again in case the crop had withered due to lack of rain.
