On the ramp About Rs 25 crore of business expected to take place at the fair. Nearly 100 participants are likely to display their products
Chennai , July 24 The Chennai Apparel Association (CAA), an organisation that looks to bring the manufacturers and distributors in the Tamil Nadu garment segment under one umbrella, announced here on Monday that it would organise a Fashion Garment Fair between July 26 and 28 at the Rani Meyyammai and Raja Muthiah hall in the city. Mr Jagdish Sarda, President, CAA, told the press that the purpose of the exhibition was to bring manufacturers, distributors, retailers and dealers together. He expects about Rs 25 crore of business to take place at the exhibition. Some of the brands that would be on display are Venfield, Lee, Trigger, Lawman, Pan America and Cotton by Century. There would be about 100 participants, including manufacturers from the State as well as distributors who operate in the Rs 5,000 crore Tamil Nadu garment market. Mr U. N. Shankar Ram, a member of the CAA and Chief Executive Officer, Tionale Enterprises, a Singapore-based garment distribution and retail management company, said that this, the first significant initiative of the CAA, is the first business-to-business garment exhibition in the State. The other activities that the association would be involved with in the future include booking mall space in advance to provide a common platform for retailing of the member companies' wares as well as exchange ideas and information on the industry. He gave the example of the implementation of VAT that would be in place in January 2007 - this would be an issue that the association would discuss and come up with a framework on how best to deal with.
