Port, dock workers hold demonstration in Vizag

Visakhapatnam , July 25

Port and dock workers staged a demonstration here on Tuesday in front of the port administrative office and submitted a memorandum to the Vishakhapatnam Port Trust Chairman, Mr K. Ratnakishore, opposing the Kolkata National Tribunal Award regarding manning scales and other issues.

According to Mr D.K. Sarma, Additional General Secretary of the All-India Port & Dock Wokers' Federation, which organised the demonstration, the National Tribunal (Kolkata) had given the award after more than five years without taking into account the conditions in the major ports.

"It will be detrimental to the efficient functioning of the ports and therefore, we have requested the Ministry of Shipping to keep it in abeyance."
