Just look at the situation in the Telgi stamp case where more than one State is required to summon the accused during the ongoing trial and the complexity of shifting him from one State to another to depose.
Or for instance, the need to secure evidence from someone based in the UK just like the Nitish Katara case. This could well be simplified by installing a video conferencing facility, and thereby providing access from multiple locations.
With multiple centre conferencing facility from a solutions provider such as Polycom, it would be possible to hold a meeting virtually, and thereby facilitate speedier delivery of justice.
Huge potential
Traditionally, Polycom focus in India has been on facilitating enterprises and small and medium sized companies for their conferencing requirements. Apart from these services, there is huge potential in eLearning, Telemedicine and in the judiciary in the Indian context, according to Mr Yugal Sharma, Country Manager, Polycom Inc.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr Sharma said that the company was in parleys with several States to offer these services.
The company is working with the Andhra Pradesh Police and expects to provide connectivity between the police, jails and the judiciary, through a multi-link video service facility.
