Tea auctions

This is with reference to "Tea trade seeks anonymity in e-auctions" (Business Line, July 14).

Since the very nature of tea auctions calls for transparency, the Tea Buyers Association has never advocated anonymity. Our stand was and is that the auction system should be transparent.

We are not opposed to modernisation of the auction system as we are also part of society and fully aware of the advantages of computerisation.

It is an admitted fact that the software developed for e-auctions is still fraught with glaring deficiencies and we had pointed out to the authorities concerned the defects to be rectified, to ensure smooth working of the new system.

Krishnakumar J. Shah

President

Tea Buyers Association

Cochin
