Bharti Airtel Ltd on Wednesday announced a 48 per cent increase in net profit to Rs 755 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2006. The consolidated total revenues for the same period grew 53 per cent to Rs 3,856 (Rs 2,517 crore) Bharti had over 2.45-crore customers, as on June 30, 2006, an increase of 86 per cent per cent over the corresponding of the previous year. Mr Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman & Managing Director, Bharti Airtel Ltd, said: "The Indian telecom sector continues to demonstrate a strong growth led by the mobile segment, crossing the 100-million subscriber mark this past quarter. The company has started the year well with strong operational and financial performance and under the new management structure, we are confident that the growth momentum would be sustained." The company's EBITDA increased by 60 per cent from Rs 941 crore to Rs 1,502 crore. Bharti's share price at the BSE went up by 3.68 per cent to close at Rs 382.90. The share price had touched a 52-week high of Rs 432.50 in May.
