Think big, Ratan Tata tells IITians

Our Bureau

Chennai , July 28

Think big. That was Mr Ratan Tata's advice to the new graduates at the Indian Institute of Technology - Madras, in his convocation address here today.

Mr Tata, Chairman of the Tata group, who was conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Science, said that for all but the last 10 years of India's independent history it has been thinking small. Countries like China stood differently by thinking big. "Think big," he urged, "think of doing things not in small increments, act boldly, this will move India differently."

India can pride itself on its skilled human resource. But as one looked at the engineering community, there is a sense of frustration and the industry has to bear the brunt of it. It is that young graduates do not find the opportunity needed here. Opportunities are needed for fertile minds to translate their thoughts to products and enterprise, Mr Tata said.
