MTNL Q1 dips 17%

New Delhi , July 28

State-owned Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) today reported a decline of 17.06 per cent in net profit at Rs 131.28 crore for the quarter ended June 30, as compared to Rs 158.29 crore in the corresponding quarter a year ago.

MTNL's profits have been on the decline over the last year on grounds of steep decline in tariff, reduced margins and no revenues from access deficit charges.

MTNL's total income also decreased 2.39 per cent to Rs 1,361.89 crore (Rs 1,395.29 crore).

The shares of the company closed at Rs 142.20, down 2.9 per cent at the Bombay Stock Exchange.
