Spot rubber rules firm

The domestic rubber prices firmed up on Friday. An all-round recovery in international indices inspired the covering groups to absorb the arrivals offering better quotes.

Sheet rubber was steady at Rs 89 a kg both at Kottayam and Kochi. The grade opened at Rs 88.50 but improved later on better demand. The remaining grades including latex closed higher on fresh buying interest.

Futures gain

The futures market gained further on NMCE. The August delivery contract was quoted at Rs 91.09 (Rs 89.38), September Rs 88.10 (Rs 86.90), October Rs 87.75 (Rs 86.60) and November contract at Rs 88 (Rs 86.80) per kg for RSS 4. The volumes totalled 1,123 tonnes till midday.

The August futures for RSS 3 moved up to 271.3 yen (Rs 109.50) from 267.7 yen a kg at TOCOM. The grade closed static at Rs 105.78 a kg at Bangkok.

Spot prices per kg were: RSS-4: Rs 89 (Rs 89); RSS-5: Rs 87 (Rs 86.50); Ungraded: Rs 84.50 (Rs 84); ISNR 20: Rs 87 (Rs 87); and Latex 60 per cent: Rs 74.19 (Rs 73.67).
