Kolkata , July 28

Texmaco Ltd, a KK Birla company, would be investing in excess of Rs 200 crore in the current fiscal in several projects, including doubling of existing wagon manufacturing capacity.

Speaking to newspersons after addressing the shareholders at the company's 66th AGM, Mr S.K. Poddar, Executive Vice Chairman, said that Texmaco was expecting its first "educational order" for EMU coaches from the Railways.

"It is a small order and would come this year. Subsequently, we would like to manufacture metro coaches too but that would take some time."

The company is contemplating tying up with a foreign player for technical collaboration for manufacturing metro and EMU coaches.

On doubling of wagon capacity, he said that the investment would be nominal. "It is more in changing the layout of the manufacturing facility. It would not involve large capital investment."

The new foundry of Texmaco, set up at a cost of Rs 55 crore, has already been installed and would start commercial production by the end of the 2006.

Texmaco is planning to produce small tractors; it currently produces tillers. In this area too it is contemplating a foreign tie-up for technology.
