Bangalore , July 29

Even as scientists across the country are crying hoarse over lack of scientific talent in the country, a study by Thomson Scientific has found that since the late 80s the number of papers and citations from India has increased four-fold. Thomson Scientific provides integrated information to researchers and professionals in the scientific community.

The study found that the number of publications from India has been stable around 15,000 papers per year till the year 2000 and has increased to nearly 25,000 papers per year (60 per cent rise). Even the number of citations has gone up four times since the early 80s.

Announcing the `Thomson Citation Laureate Award' to five Indian research professors for their contributing work in R&D worldwide, Mr Keith McGregor, Executive Vice-President, Thomson Scientific, Academic and Government Markets, said that scientific R&D work in India has an impact on the world today.
