Role of the informal sector

This is with reference to the `India Uninc' column (Business Line, July 27): The author has been highlighting the role played by the informal sector in meeting the credit needs of the entrepreneurial class.

The informal sector plays a major role in alleviating unemployment by encouraging entrepreneurship. One way of addressing unemployment is to encourage entrepreneurship. Credit is the basic need and the sector acts as the venture capitalist.
