Society & Development Industry & Economy - Health States - Andhra Pradesh EMRI to expand services soon Our Bureau
Hyderabad , July 30 Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI), an initiative supported by the Satyam founder, Mr B. Ramalinga Raju, has decided to expand its services nationally, after covering Andhra Pradesh completely. Announcing this here on Sunday, Mr Venkat Changavalli, Chief Executive Officer of EMRI, said that the institute hoped to cover the whole of Andhra Pradesh by next year. "We would like to get two million calls a day and save two million lives by 2010," he added. So far, the institute has attended to 60,000 emergency cases and saved 4,000 people in a year. "But for this public-private partnership, these people would have lost their lives," he pointed out. Mr Ramalinga Raju has put in Rs 50 crore and allocated 34 acres to set up the institute. The police, district collectors and 650 public and private hospitals are part of the emergency care network that covers 50 towns and 2.2 crore people. "We have been getting appeals from States like Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh to start similar initiatives. But we would like to cover the State fully before expanding the service," he said.
