Issue directives to banks on campus recruitments: NCBE

SBI's action to go to only to select campuses in the State

The bank's move to go to campuses to recruit officer trainees had come at a time when the Banking Service Recruitment Board (BSRB) is disbanded and a freeze on fresh recruitments is holding, the NCBE said.

Thiruvananthapuram , July 31

The National Confederation of Bank Employees (NCBE) has demanded that the Centre issue directives to bank managements to strictly abide by the Constitutional norms while recruiting staff from campuses.

A meeting of the State unit of NCBE held in Kochi has taken particular exception to the manner in which State Bank of India sought to go to campuses, which had provoked a stay order from the High Court in recent times.

VIOLATES RIGHTS

The High Court had ruled against the bank's action to go only to select campuses in the State (All Saints College and the Government Women's College in Thiruvananthapuram, and Rajagiri College in Ernakulam), which violated the Constitutional provisions ensuring equal job opportunities to all citizens in the Government undertakings.

The bank's move to go to campuses to recruit officer trainees had come at a time when the Banking Service Recruitment Board (BSRB) is disbanded and a freeze on fresh recruitments is holding, the NCBE said.

END OUTSOURCING

The Centre must also call forthwith an end to the move for getting banking jobs outsourced as per the Reserve Bank prescriptions. A copycat bid on what essentially foreign banks have been trying to achieve with debatable results, this will only help hasten the untimely death of the `mass banking' concept.

The NCBE exhorted all bank employees and fellow trade union members to oppose the outsourcing move, tooth and nail.

WAGE BOARD

Appointment of a wage board for working journalists was another demand that the NCBE raised at its meeting. While doing so, those working in the visual media should also be brought within the ambit of the board.

Mr E. John Joseph presided over the meeting. Among those who spoke were, Mr K. Raja Kurup, General Secretary, NCBE (Kerala); Mr E.V. Sasidharan, Mr Viswambharan K., Mr G.S. Suresh Pai, Mr Muraleedharan, Mr Kumaran, Mr A.P. Francis and Mr N.E. Siddhan.
