Post Office SB deposits rise

The deposits under the Post Office Savings Bank Account Scheme as on March 31, 2006 are Rs 16,790 crore. These deposits grew by Rs 1,490 crore last year, according to an official release. The release quoted Mr P.K. Bansal, Minister of State for Finance, as answering a question raised in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. The release also quoted the Minister as saying that the Uttar Pradesh postal circle had the maximum savings deposits at Rs 2,737 crore, followed by West Bengal at Rs 1,890 crore and Bihar postal circle at Rs 1,443 crore.
