Mangalore , Aug. 1

The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) has lifted the ban on stacking and transportation of iron-ore cargo within the premises of New Mangalore Port, with certain conditions.

The port is working on the implementation of these conditions, sources in the port told Business Line. A meeting of the port users and the port authorities was held on Tuesday evening to discuss the implementation of these conditions.

Sources in the shipping sector said that the port is adhering to most of these conditions. However, another meeting will be held on Wednesday to review the implementation of the conditions. Nearly 120 lorries are waiting within the port premises for loading iron-ore cargo to ships, the sources said.

In a notification dated July 26, the KSPCB had prohibited the storage and transportation of iron-ore within the premises of New Mangalore Port till September 15.
