Scorpio sales up 20% in July

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has posted a 39 per cent rise in July 2006 sales over the corresponding period of the previous fiscal at 13,136 units (9,454 units) . During this period, 3,043 units (2,390) Scorpios were sold and it marked a 27 per cent increase in sales for the flagship product from M&M stable.

Dr Pawan Goenka, President, M&M, attributed the increase in sales due to the new face-lift offering of Scorpio. Moreover, the product is now widely available across the country. Besides Scorpio, sales of M&M's utility vehicle range have risen by 23 per cent at 5,872 units (4,774 units). .

On a cumulative basis (April-July) the most significant change in sales were primarily seen in the export market that grew by 34 per cent. The company exported 1,984 units (1,480) for the cumulative period.

Maruti sales up 10%

NEW DELHI: Maruti Udyog Ltd on Tuesday reported 10.1 per cent increase in domestic sales during July at 44,653 units as compared to 40,553 units in the same month last year.

The company's exports, however, were down by 58.2 per cent at 1,755 units as against 4,203 units in July last year.

Total sales during the month managed a marginal growth of 3.7 per cent at 46,408 units as against 44,756 units in the same month a year ago.

Sales of Maruti's popular model M800 dipped by four per cent at 6,040 units as against 6,294 units last year. The company's compact car (comprising Alto, Zen, Wagon R and Swift) sales, however, rose by 15.1 per cent at 29,326 units as against 25,477 units last year.

The company said sales in the mid-size segment, including Baleno and Esteem were down by 15.5 per cent at 2,142 units as against 2,534 units.

Consolidated domestic sales till July of this fiscal improved by 16.9 per cent at 1,81,757 units as against 1,55,526 in the corresponding period a year ago. Exports during the period under review were, however, down by 13.5 per cent at 9,599 units as compared to 11,096 units a year ago.

Ford, Hyundai sales up

CHENNAI: Ford India has more than doubled its sales in July 2006 over the same month last year while Hyundai Motor India has reported a 27-per cent increase in sales for the same period.

In July 2006, Ford India sold 3,019 cars against 1,374 in July 2005.

Hyundai Motor India, a company press release said, sold 24,615 vehicles in July 2006, of which domestic sales accounted for 16,209 units and exports 8,400 units. In July 2005, the company sold 19,286 vehicles, of which domestic sales accounted for 10,746 units and exports 8,540 units.
