Bangalore , Aug. 2

Sanyo-BPL expects to post revenues of around Rs 450 crore from its colour television business and garner a six per cent share of the market during this year.

Revenues from sale of DVDs, small frost-free and direct cool refrigerators are expected to be around Rs 120 crore during the year.

Sanyo-BPL Vice-President for Marketing, Mr V.G. Rajagopalan, told newspersons on Wednesday that the company would launch about eight colour television (CTV) models during the festival season to capture a bigger share of the market. "If we have to get a share of six per cent, our sales during the festival season should be around seven per cent," he said. About one per cent of the total sales from CTVs will come from Sanyo's models. The company will spend most of the advertising and promotion budget earmarked for the year during the festival season, he said.

Sanyo-BPL expects to have its products in 16,000 outlets before March 2007 from the existing 5,500 outlets, he said. Currently, Sanyo-BPL's share is around four per cent since the company started selling its CTVs in January this year. Mr Rajagopalan said Sanyo-BPL has been taking advantage of the huge database it has of its customers to drive sales.

Sanyo-BPL's Chief Operating Officer and President, Mr Keiji Oshima, said Sanyo was making steady progress in the premium end of the category. "We are expanding the slim TV category to become a leader in that segment," he said.

Mr Oshima said Mr L.H. Bhatia who worked with the BPL Group for over 30 years as part of the senior management team has been roped in as an adviser to the company while Mr Alok Arora who was with the BPL Group for 12 years and later went to West Asia to take up an assignment with Toyota, has been appointed V-P, Sales.
