Airlines Singapore Airlines hikes fuel surcharge for US, Canada travel Our Bureau
New Delhi , Aug 3 Singapore Airlines (SIA) announced on Thursday a hike in fuel surcharge on flights between Singapore and New York, Newark, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Vancouver. In a statement the airline said that the fuel surcharge on tickets issued on or after August 15 this year for travel to the US and Canada from Singapore was being revised to $90 from the existing $60 per sector. The latest revision would mean that a passenger buying a SIA ticket on or after August 15 for travel on the India-Singapore-Los Angeles-Singapore-India sector would pay a fuel surcharge of $300 instead of $240 charged at present. The revised fuel surcharge would also apply on one-way travel. The airline has said that the existing surcharge of $60 per sector for other long haul journeys and $20 per sector for travel within South East Asia will remain unchanged. The airline attributed the revised fuel surcharge to the persistently high jet fuel prices. "The adjustments offer only partial relief on higher operating costs arising from the price of jet fuel, which now hovers around $90 per barrel," the statement added.
