Madurai, Aug.4

The farmers of Cauvery delta region were disappointed over the Union Government's decision to extend the term of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal by six months.

According to the Trichy District Delta Farmers' Welfare Association President, Mr G. Kanagasabi, there was no end to extensions. The farmers had been hopeful of a verdict, but the decision has sown the seeds of doubt. He urged the Chief Minister and the Union Government to intervene immediately and ensure an early pronouncement of a final award. There was no need for the extension, added Mr P. Ayyakannu, State General Secretary of the Bharathiya Kisan Sangh.
