Supply fears buoy spot rubber

Aravindan

Kottayam , Aug 4

Tight supply concerns continued to attract fresh buying and short covering in spot rubber. According to sources, the main marketing centres witnessed acute scarcity of sheets as most of the dealers sold their stocks in the bear phase.

Covering groups and purchase agents procured the sparse arrivals offering better quotes. RSS 4 improved to Rs 95.50 and 95.00 a kg from Rs 94.00 and Rs 94.50 respectively at Kottayam and Kochi.

Futures weak

On the contrary, the rubber futures surrendered in tandem with the declines in overseas markets led by TOCOM. The August contract weakened to Rs 94.90 (Rs 96.04), September contract to Rs 92.00 (Rs 93.08), October to Rs 88.52 (Rs 91.28) and November contract to Rs 88 (Rs 91.10) per kg for RSS 4 on NMCE. Spot prices (Rs a kg) were: RSS-4: Rs 95.50 (Rs 94); RSS-5: Rs 92.50 (Rs 92); ungraded: Rs 90.50 (Rs 90); ISNR 20: Rs 92 (Rs 91.50) and latex 60 per cent: Rs 74.72 (Rs 73.67).
