Bangalore, Aug. 4

Over the past three months, the ASP (application service provider) model has taken the storage world by storm, said Mr Gupta. Services that offer e-mail archiving and back-up of critical data to tape are taking off in Asia. Priced at $10 (around Rs 500) per month, such services will see many takers in India when it arrives, say experts. "When such services appear, the focus will change from storage to information and privacy of your information will become more of an issue with the hosted model," said Mr Francheschini. Privacy will also be in-built (tamper-proofing) into pen-like flash drives that will, in the near future, store 1 terabyte of data.

At home, data management is fast becoming an issue with a slew of digital gizmos - digicams and MP3 players.
