Rupee tad up against dollar

Our Bureau

Mumbai, Aug. 4

The rupee gained marginally against the US dollar on Friday on the back of FII inflows into the domestic equity market. The home currency opened at 46.54/56 and touched an intra-day low of 46.64 before closing at 46.55. On Thursday, the rupee ended at 46.56/57. Oil companies were seen buying dollars in the morning, which pushed the rupee to the day's low, said a dealer with a private bank. However, volumes were thin as there was no major news that could move the market, he said. In the overseas market, the dollar strengthened against the yen due to the cross currency play in the market. "The direction of rupee against the dollar can only be decided after the release of the US non-farm payroll data in the evening," said the dealer. In the forward-premia market, the six-month ended at 1.04 per cent (1.03 per cent) and the 12-month ended at 1.16 per cent (1.14 per cent)
