Halol (Vadodara) , Aug. 5

The Georgia-Pacific Resins Inc (GPRI), a subsidiary of the Atlanta-based $80-billion Georgia-Pacific Corp, has announced an joint venture with the Gujarat-based Kemrock Industries and Exports Ltd to offer thermosetting resins to a variety of industrial markets in India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the UAE.

Announcing the deal, the GPRI Vice-President of Specialty Resins and International Business, Mr Peter Williams, told a news conference that GPRI was licensing its phenolic resin technology to Kemrock Industries for the composites, coated abrasives and foundry markets.

The two companies have formed Georgia-Pacific Kemrock International Pvt Ltd, which will also offer non-phenolic resins such as polyesters, vinyl esters and epoxies manufactured by Kemrock. GPRI previously licensed its phenolic resin technology to Kemrock Industries in 2004 for the manufacture of composite products for a variety of applications, including aviation and defence.

Expansion mode

Kemrock's CMD, Mr Kalpesh Patel, said the joint venture will see an investment of Rs 40 crore even as the company was entering into an expansion mode shortly.

His company had emerged one of the country's leading manufacturer of high-performance reinforced thermoset companies after entering this sector in the early 1980s. Kemrock is a ISO 9001-2000 company offering composite products meeting global standards.

On the other hand, GPRI is a leading supplier of thermosetting resins and chemicals used in building products, paper-making and specialty industrial applications.

It operates 15 chemical plants in the US , as well as a plant each in Brazil, Chile and Argentina, and has a manufacturing presence in South Africa and China.
