Nagarjuna Power Corpn welfare initiative

Nagarjuna Power Corporation Ltd has proposed various welfare measures for the people in the vicinity of its proposed thermal power plant at Padubidri in Udupi district.

Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, Mr Praveer Sinha, Chief Operating Officer of the company, said that the company is planning to provide insurance cover for nearly 5,000 fishermen in the vicinity of the plant. Discussions are on with some fishermen leaders in this regard. The sum assured in the scheme will be in the range of Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh, he said.

The company is also planning to set up a factory near the proposed plant to manufacture equipment for the physically-challenged. Stating that the local youths were being trained in this regard, he said the factory would start work soon.

The company will also use the services of the women self-help groups (SHGs) in the region to produce stationery required for the plant.

The company will collaborate with the Government in implementing sanitation projects in the vicinity of the plant. The help of SHGs will be sought to identify such villages.
