Events Amex Bank, People for Animals plan fund raiser Our Bureau
New Delhi , Aug. 6 In association with the American Express Bank, Ms Maneka's Gandhi's animal welfare organisation, People for Animals, will hold an exhibition-cum-sale of paintings of Raja Ravi Varma to raise funds for the Saraswathi Kendra Learning Centre for Children with autism, dyslexia and learning disabilities in Chennai and the activities of People for Animals. The exhibition-cum-sale will display 400 oleographs of Raja Ravi Varma from 1848-1906. Reckoned as the " Father of Modern art" (1848-1906), Raja Ravi Varma belongs among the league of artists whose works earned him reputation in India as well as abroad. At Chennai, he was the recipient of the Governor's Gold Medal for his painting Nair Lady at the Toilet, which also won him a Certificate of Merit at the International Exhibition at Vienna. His patrons included British governors, maharajas and dewans. The exhibition will be held to commemorate the death centenary of the legendary artist from August 11-15 in the Capital.
