Hardware Marketing - Retailing HCL Info plans 200 retail outlets Thomas K. Thomas
MR AJAI CHOWDHRY
New Delhi , Aug. 10 HCL Infosystems plans to open 200 digital lifestyle outlets in the country this year. The retail outlets will function as a one-stop shop for all digital accessories and gadgets such as LCD TVs, mobile handsets, cameras, i-Pods, MP3 players and computing devices. The company has entered into an agreement with multiple vendors for the retail foray. Mr Ajai Chowdhry, Chairman and CEO, HCL Infosystems, told Business Line that retailing was the next big thing on HCL's agenda. "We know the Indian market like no one else. Our success with Nokia and i-Pod has given us the confidence to foray into digital lifestyle stores. We have been in this space in a way for some time, but now we are taking it a level higher. Indians are very tech savvy and we want to create an experience through these digital stores where they can walk in and feel and get a sense of the products." The lifestyle stores will also offer Dish TV connections and Toshiba PCs, gaming devices and laptops among other digital products. The lifestyle stores will be branded HCL just like its existing chain of stores showcasing Nokia mobile phones and PCs. HCL aims to become the biggest player in the digital retailing segment, he said.
