Railways Bhutan links: Rlys studying feasibility Our Bureau
New Delhi , Aug. 11 Indian Railways has undertaken feasibility studies for extending the Indian Railway network from the States of West Bengal and Assam to the nearest border towns in Bhutan, the Minister of State for Railways, Mr R. Velu, said in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. The links for which studies have been taken up include Hasimara (West Bengal)-Phuentsholing (18 km) and bifurcation to Pasakha; Kokrajhar (Assam)-Gelephu (70 km); Pathsala(Assam) - Naglam (40 km); Rangia (Assam)-Samdrupjongkhar via Darranga (60km); and Banarhat (West Bengal)-Samtse (16 km). The decision regarding establishment of rail connectivity between the two countries will be taken up depending upon the results of the feasibility studies, he stated.
