Rupee weak on terror warnings

Our Bureau

Mumbai, Aug. 11

The rupee weakened by around 10 paise against the dollar on Friday due to security threats in the country. The currency opened weak at 46.48/50, touched an intra-day high of 46.45/46 to close at 46.52/53, lower than Thursday's close at 46.41/42.

"However, later in the day, there was some dollar selling by exporters which pushed the rupee up to 46.45/46," said a dealer. The stock markets also helped the rupee. "However, reports from the US warning India about terrorist attacks weakened the rupee," he said.

The rupee is expected to trade in a range, said the dealer. In the forward-premia market, the six-month premium ended at 1.20 per cent (1.18 per cent) and the 12-month premium ended at 1.24 per cent (1.23 per cent).
