Resistance keeps spot rubber on leash

Aravindan

Kottayam , Aug 12

Buyer resistance kept sheet rubber under pressure in the weekend session. The grade moved down to Rs 93.00 and Rs 93.50 a kg respectively at Kottayam and Kochi from Rs 94.00 a kg on Friday. The operators were slightly cautious as international indices lost ground towards weekend on heavy long liquidation following fears on terrorist attacks.

The rubber futures were also in a dull mood except for its August delivery contract, which closed at Rs 97.24 (Rs 97.16) a kg on NMCE. The near month September finished at Rs 91.00 (Rs 91.08), October at Rs 88.50 (Rs 88.64) and November at Rs 87.80 (Rs 88.28) per kg for RSS 4. The trading volumes totalled 694 tonnes recording 7 tonnes in August, 569 tonnes in September, 72 tonnes in October and 23 tonnes in November.

Spot rates (Rs a kg) were: RSS-4: Rs 93 (Rs 94); RSS-5: Rs 91.50 (Rs 91.50); ungraded: Rs 88.50 (Rs 88.50); ISNR 20: Rs 91 (Rs 91) and latex 60 per cent: Rs 73.67 (Rs 73.67).
