PEPSI AND COCA-COLA

Bangalore , Aug. 12

Traditional competitors in the cola war - Pepsi and Coca-Cola - are now battling on a different turf - but not against each other.

This time around, they seem to have a common agenda, with both companies coming out with `separate' advertisements in newspapers claiming that their products are safe for consumption.

Coca-Cola has also come out with a presentation titled `Truth behind the debate,' which reiterates what the company has been maintaining ever since the pesticide controversy broke out. Coca-Cola India's spokesperson said the response to the company's advertisement in newspapers a few days ago offering to take people on a guided tour of the company's manufacturing facilities has been steady.

"We have been receiving 40 enquiries per day ever since the advertisement was put out," said the spokesperson. He said the company has been receiving calls from all kinds of people ... from students to software engineers.

He said it's up to people to come forward and see for themselves. "We are willing to take anyone to our facilities as per their own convenience."

Coca-Cola's presentation `Truth behind the debate' claims that the company uses multiple barrier treatment to treat water and that its treated water complies with the applicable BIS norms.

Coca-Cola's plan to enter the fruit juices segment in India could be as early as the end of this calendar year.

It plans to launch its fruit juice brand Minute Maid in the country before December-end.

Two or three plants are expected to be set up for this; one of which could be in South India.

In India, the company will offer a select few flavours initially, according to the company spokesperson.

Globally, Minute Maid is available in flavours such as orange, lemon, grape and apple.
