SSI States - Tamil Nadu Centre plans to set up national board for SMEs Our Correspondent
Madurai , Aug. 13 The Union Government will soon set up an `National Board for Micro, Small And Medium Enterprises' to examine the factors affecting their promotion and development and review the policies of the Government in enhancing their competitiveness, said Mr Naresh Chaturvedi, Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, here on Saturday. Inaugurating an intensive campaign on `National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) Activities and Performance and Credit Rating For Small Scale Industries', organised by the Madurai District Tiny And Small Scale Industries Association (Maditssia), he said the Central Government has recently passed a comprehensive legislation, which besides seeking to promote the growth of the sector, would address credit facilities, preferences in procurement policies, delay in payments to these enterprises. Their presence is significant in sectors such as agricultural processing, engineering, ready-made garments, leather and leather products, ceramics and information technology. NSIC has been promoting the interests of the small-scale sector through its various schemes such as market support programme, tender marketing, integrated marketing support programme etc
