The Hindu Business Line : Seminar on commodities investment on Sept 2, 3 in Mumbai

With the opening up of commodities futures trading and the imminent entry of commercial banks, mutual funds and foreign institutional investors in the commodity derivatives space, far-reaching changes are envisaged in the marketplace.

In the developed economies, commodities have always enjoyed high level of commercial importance and business interest because of their significant contribution to economic growth. A strong positive correlation between economic growth and commodities consumption is well established.

India is no different. Its robust growth has spawned great interest in a variety of commodities including energy, metals and agriculture. Commodities are attracting tremendous attention from diverse sets of market participants.

`Commodities as an emerging asset class' — Commasset 2006 will be the theme of a seminar to be held in Mumbai during September 2-3, 2006.

A large number of participants representing diverse activities — manufacturers, consumers, traders, brokers, commercial banks, fund managers, investment advisors, commodity exchanges, service providers, researchers — will meet over two days to discuss in-depth the emerging scenario in the marketplace and why commodities are emerging as an asset class in India.

Organised by Radical Communications, the event will have eminent speakers from various disciplines sharing their expertise on a range of topics including regulatory issues, investment opportunities, commodity price outlook and so on.

Mr S. Sundareshan, Chairman of Forward Markets Commission, (the commodity futures market regulator) will inaugurate the 2-day conference.
