SER freight loading for April-July up 18.26 pc

The South Eastern Railway (SER) has loaded a record 31.14 million tonnes (mt) of revenue earning freight for the four month (April-July) period in the current fiscal, 4.85 mt more than the previous year. The growth has been to the extent of 18.26 per cent.

As a result, it has been able to generate originating freight earnings of Rs 1,533.44 crore, which is Rs 320.63 crore more than the corresponding period of 2005-06, registering an increase of over 26 per cent.

On the passenger front, SER carried 60.03 million passengers for the period, which was 4.64 million more than the corresponding period of 2005-06, registering a growth of over 8 per cent. Riding on the sharp increase in passenger traffic, SER generated earnings of Rs 212.45 crore, up Rs 27.69 crore, , recording a growth of 15 per cent.
