Security Industry & Economy - Terrorism States - Maharashtra Mumbai on high-alert ahead of Independence day Our Bureau
Mumbai , Aug. 14 Sensitive and strategically important installations like the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre are under the close watch of the National Security Guards. This is part of the scaled-up security arrangements across Mumbai ahead of the Independence day celebrations. The financial capital is on high alert due to possible threats from terrorist outfits, particularly after the multiple terror-attack on Mumbai's local trains last month. The heightened security situation across the world, in the wake of terrorist threats, also adds to the increased alert by the State authorities. There is a visible security presence at the domestic and international airports, Bombay High Court and Mantralaya. Entrance to the Mantralaya complex is being guarded by a platoon of policemen. Dog squads have also been pressed into service. Intense inspection of the baggage of local passengers is being carried out by the Government Railway Police with the help of the Home Guards. The Riot Control Police along with State Reserve Police Forces have also been deployed at sensitive points across the city. Security around shopping malls, Mumbai Stock Exchange and places of religious worship have also been beefed up.
