Life Insurance Industry & Economy - Social Welfare LIC cover for 22 lakh BPL families Our Bureau
Mumbai , Aug. 14 Life Insurance Corporation of India has provided insurance cover to the heads of 22.23 lakh below poverty line families under the Janashree Bima Yojana (JBY) for a premium of Rs 22.23 crore. The scheme is called `Panna Dhay Jeevan Amrit Yojana'. JBY provides insurance cover for death due to natural and accidental cause. It also provides cover for total and partial permanent disability resulting from an accident In addition to this, a maximum of two children from these families who are studying between Std IX and Std XII including ITI courses will be entitled for a scholarship of Rs1,200 per annum without any extra cost. With this scheme, LIC has covered 30,40,578 lives under Social Security Schemes in the current year. According to a press release, this is the largest scheme under JBY. Ms Vasundhra Raje Scindia, Chief Minister of Rajasthan, handed over a cheque of Rs 22.23 crore to LIC on Monday, said the release.
