Hyderabad , Aug. 14 Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has said that it is ready to offer to States the software it developed on the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS). The IT major has developed a portal that mirrors the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in Andhra Pradesh. The TCS solution, APREGS Software, is aimed at helping effective implementation and monitoring of the scheme. "This will provide consolidated view of the entire scheme and enable progress tracking and monitoring, providing transparency to the system," Dr M. Vidyasagar, Executive Vice-President (Advanced Technology) of TCS said.
`Interactive effort'
The English version of the Web site has been live for the last four months. The Telugu version was launched here by Mr Jairam Ramesh, Union Minister of State for Commerce. "We developed it for free, spending 20 person years. It is an interactive effort. We took inputs from the State officials on their requirements. We also understood the processes required to be involved in the creation of the solution," he said. He said the company would give training to the field staff to get adjusted to the software. The site facilitated for social auditing of the implementation of the scheme as it gave people access to information on works, workers and wage payments.
Varying needs
On offering the solution to other States, he said though the platform was the same it was important to understand the needs of respective States. Asked for his response on TCS offer, Mr Jairam Ramesh said the Centre could provide funds to let States acquire the solution. "Assam, Bihar and Uttaranchal are very keen to take the solution," he said.
